All over the world, many vulnerable people suffer abuses each day because they lack the basic knowledge of their human rights. The world acknowledges the impact of such violations on global developmental efforts, but more importantly, on the victims as human beings. Despite human rights being at the core of the much desired cohesive societies and a peaceful global order, it is one area that often receives very little attention and therefore demands some deliberate actions to ensure that they are protected, respected and promoted.

The Human Rights Advocacy Centre (HRAC) is founded on the belief that securing basic human rights in Ghana requires an effective frontline organisation equipped with essential advocacy and research skills, and legal expertise in dealing with individuals, systems and institutions whose activities result in human rights violations in the country.

The primary aim of the HRAC is to assist individuals, groups and communities whose fundamental human rights have been infringed upon to seek redress within the ambit of domestic and international legal framework. The Organisation runs a human rights and referral centre (Human Rights Clinic) for individuals.

We also undertake human rights advocacy and training through conferences, workshops and community-based campaigns, and conduct fact finding missions to address human rights violations. We monitor and evaluate compliance with human rights standards through transfer of skills and build the capacity of communities to protect their human rights.

Our work over the years has placed us among the most sought after human rights organisations for the provision and dissemination of information to policy makers and key stakeholders whilst enhancing and inculcating a human rights culture in public officers, state actors and communities. We envisage our work will continue to enhance good governance, accountability and transparency.

HRAC has been and will continue to be the facilitator of public officers/citizens interface, the voice and advocate for the vulnerable and their inclusion in decision making processes, serve as a check on government’s compliance with international, regional and national human rights frameworks and demand greater accountability mechanisms while collaborating and sharing expertise with local CSOs to reinforce their impact in development.
